How to unscramble letters into words
- Type the letters you have, in any order, up to 15. Use a question mark for a blank tile.
- Unscrambly checks them against a 269,870-word dictionary right on your device, and the words appear as you type.
- Read the results grouped by length, longest first, with the highest-scoring words at the top of each group. Switch the sort to Score to put the best play first.

How to unscramble words without a solver
No screen at the table? These five habits come straight from the counts in the same 269,870-word list.
- Start from the common letters. E, S, I, A, R and N are the most frequent letters in the list, and E alone makes up 11.3% of every letter in it. Build around those before you place a J, Q, X or Z.
- Try the usual openings. The ten most common two-letter starts, with the number of words that begin with each, are CO (8,926), RE (8,915), UN (7,221), IN (5,858), DE (5,668), PR (5,524), DI (5,221), CA (4,700), SU (4,309) and ST (4,285). Lay those pairs out from your letters first.
- Build the ending first. Of the common endings, the ten that close the most words are -ES (35,050), -ED (20,303), -ING (18,718), -ER (10,825), -LY (8,532), -AL (5,463), -ION (4,355), -NESS (4,145), -OUS (2,707) and -EST (2,690). Set one aside and unscramble what is left.
- Add an S. 77,314 words (28.6% of the list) turn into another listed word with a plain S on the end, so check every word you find for a plural.
- Keep Q and U together. Of the 4,107 words with a Q, 4,016 (97.8%) have a U straight after every Q, so a Q without a U leaves you a short list.
